Airport providing a grassed helicopter land pad, using reinforced turf. Environmental image gallery 4 of 4.
Pictured below:
Green airport-heliport environmental image gallery, image 4 of four - demonstrating grassed helicopter land pad {helipad}, at a privately owned, small regional airport-heliport.
Structural support (for the helicopter loading) is incorporated into the the reinforced grass turf. This allows the helipad to be used year round, come rain or shine.
This grassed landing strip is an environmentally sound alternative to tarmac, while providing a more cost-effective alternative to conventional paving. One of the chief advantages to the heliport owner is that utilizing an infiltration-based storm water management plan will render as unnecessary and superflous all the conventional control-and-contain, treat-and-infiltrate SWR-mgt structures - which often cost more than the airport pavement or helipad construction themselves.
