Dogs outside in the new exercise area
|
Now, the owners may leave their dogs outside without worrying about digging, escaping, or swallowing small boulders and requiring surgery again.

Hi Mark,
I don’t know if you will get this, as I am sure you are already in Germany. I do apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I was out of town last week, and due to flight cancellations, arrived home a day later than expected, and have been playing catch up ever since. I am going to attach some pictures of the pen that may be helpful.

Basically, we leveled the area first, with a slight grade to help with drainage. Then had the fence crew set all the posts.
I did put down a layer of Typar just because it does get so wet here. That was covered with about 2-3 inches of crushed rock- 5/8ths minus.
Then we put the Hoof Grid down, with an apron all around.
It was very easy to slid the Hoof Grid over the fence posts. Jeff used a sawzall to enlarge the grid openings if needed to fit over the posts.

We then piled pea gravel in the middle of the pen, and had the fence crew could come back and put up the wire.
After the wire was up, I spread the gravel out. I still have some “finish” work to do around the outside, but the pen is great. The total pen is 30’ X 60’ feet, and one end divided into three 10’ X 10’ pens. We do plan to cover the three small pens in the near future.
Since we finished the pen, I have taken two trips, and left my wonder husband in charge of 8 rowdy goldens. He has been able to manage then very easily, and has had a safe, MUD FREE place to leave them during the day. It has really been the perfect answer here. Even with all the rain we have had the last couple weeks, the pen drains, and there is no mud.
Thanks for all you help, and let me know about your trip.
