Finished Pervious Grass Parking Lot Project

Because of the incessant rainfall this spring, the earlier phases of this project were severely delayed.
The water-permeable grass parking area was the last phase of this project.
First, the asphalt roadway was installed.
The rainfall delayed construction of the asphalt roadway until the last week of springtime.

The delay could have been avoided, if StabiliGrid had been used for all the vehicular traffic surfaces, including the roadways and lanes.

This delay was a result of the "perfect weather" required for the asphalt streets and lanes.
The dely had nothing to do with StabiliGrid since:
1 - once the ground has been prepped, StabiliGrid may be installed in virtually any weather conditions, and
2 - the amount of preparation required for a StabiliGrid roadway is less severe than that required for conventional asphalt or concrete roadways.

The "window of opportunity" (weather requirements) is much more forgiving and open.

Grass does not flourish in the summer:
Since this entire natural park will not have any irrigation during the summer,
and because (without irrigation) the grass seeds may germinate, but will not be able to develop root structures,
and because the hot, dry summer weather was starting immediately upon completion of the StabiliGrid parking lot,
it was decided by the park horticulturalist/landscaping subcontractor to delay the seeding of the parking lot until the cool, wet Autumn growing season.
As a result, this pervious parking lot project was not seeded until the late fall, 2007.

The parking lot was still used during the summer, and performed perfectly. Perhaps even better than expected (see pictures below)

Chuck,

Just wanted to send some pictures of the parking area at Tilles Park.

We had a significant ran last week, and most of the water drains across the center section from the surrounding area.

Take care, Eric Hogan
